Special Tools was founded in 1979 by Tony Deschenes who dedicated his life to developing and creating precision cutting tools for the manufacturing industry. Starting out in a small garage at his home, he used a variety of manual grinding equipment to produce tools that would save his customers time and money, as well as help them manufacture a superior product.

The quality that Special Tools provided to its customers helped bring about continued growth in the company and in 1994 Special Tools purchased their first CNC Grinder (ANCA TG7). The purchase of this CNC spurred rapid growth and in 1996 Special Tools moved into its current location in Saint Francis, MN where it employed four people and added another ANCA TG7.

Over the course of the next 18 years, Special Tools would grow to four CNC Grinding Machines and add additional manual grinding and machining equipment as Tony continued to own and operate Special Tools. In January of 2014, Special Tools was purchased by his grandson, Adam Klinkner. Special Tools has since grown from four ANCA Grinders to five, as well as, additional improvements in other equipment throughout the shop.

Special Tools currently employs seven people, totaling more than 100 years of combined experience in the cutting tool industry and remains dedicated to superior quality and workmanship in all of the tools and services they provide.
